Palekh painted furniture is a window into the world of fairy tales. Hand-built and custom painted as one-of-a-kind masterpieces, ArtLever is the only company offering this treasure, hand-made this winter and delivered to Milan for the fall season.
Featuring complex patterns and mythic stories Palekh has been made in this form in remote Russia since 1924 and for centuries before that. Color pigments are made from ancient secrets using egg yolk and native Russian plants. The painting achieves depth, luminosity, and perseverance that is unique in the art world.
The very first works of Palekh icon painters in the new genre of lacquered miniatures, commissioned by the local handicraft museum, received a diploma of the first degree at the exhibition of the Academy of Artistic Sciences in Russia a century ago. In 1924, Palekh caskets made a splash at the Venice Art Opening Day. They even asked Russia to send craftsmen to Venice to organize the school. The artists refused to leave Russia. In fact, even today this is the first piece of Palekh furniture to leave Russia this year, offered exclusively from ArtLever.
