AZ 604 - MXP-JFK: BLUE CODES

Piero Addis creates a sort of digital rococo that is both stunningly contemporary and deeply rooted in aesthetic tradition. In "AZ604 MXP-JFK" the allegorical figure on the left superimposed on the canvas comes from Tiepolo frescos of the European noble palaces, while the sun on the right of the painting is replaced by the chandelier of the Teatro alla Scala in Milano. A continuous succession of allegorical references and levels like infinite layers of sky, upside down points of view pervaded by a soft blue color. An entire sequence of images is overlaid, edited, printed on the finest handmade paper, augmented with watercolor or ink, scanned again, printed and finally mounted on canvas. Even this final stage may well be overworked or even highlighted with gold leaf.
